Westmark Chapter 23 Summary

  • When he sees Cabbarus, Theo's surprised he looks like a relatively normal guy instead of a monster. Mickle, on the other hand, freaks out at the sight of him. Cabby says that the group can be charged with a whole bunch of things thanks to their adventure in Nierkeeping… but that he'll drop the charges on one condition.
  • Rather than name his price, Cabbarus says that he needs Las Bombas's help. Then he grabs Mickle, who's staring at a wooden trapdoor in the floor, and says that LB and Mickle must summon apparitions to please King Augustine. Mickle will be the spirit of Princess Augusta, because they look a lot alike, and as Augusta, she will tell her dad to give up his throne and name Cabbarus his successor. If they fail, they'll die per the king's command, but if they succeed, they'll get a lot of money.
  • Las Bombas is worried about whether or not they can do it, but Theo can't even imagine what will happen if Cabbarus becomes king, and he insists that, no matter what, Cabby won't let them live. LB suggests that they comply with Cabbarus until they come before they king, when they confess all and throw themselves on his mercy.
