Westmark Chapter 25 Summary

  • Theo has no idea what's going on—how could Mickle imitate a voice she's never heard? But Mickle keeps on going—she also mimics a deeper voice that tells the little girl she has to learn a lesson; the girl responds by saying she was only playing hide and seek and didn't mean to get in trouble. Mickle walks into the center of the hallway as the voice of the guy is mean to the girl. Everybody recognizes the deep voice—it's Cabbarus.
  • Augustine thinks it's Augusta speaking to him from beyond the grave. The voice of Augusta insists that Cabbarus help her, but Cabbarus doesn't, and she slips to her death. Augustine realizes that Cabbarus murdered his daughter, but Queen Caroline insists that Mickle is her baby girl—Cabby flees from Augustine's guards and Theo chases him down.
  • As he runs away, Cabbarus goes up to the old bell tower, climbing lots of stairs, and Theo follows. Theo almost falls over the tower, as does Cabbarus, but they hang on to the ropes of the bells. Theo doesn't want to allow the Chief Minister to fall and die, and they both hang on for dear life until the guards and Theo's pals come to rescue them. As they're rescued, the bells, silenced since the princess's death, start ringing again—Theo wonders where Mickle is, and realizes she was the princess all along.
