The Fallen Star Chapter 11 Summary

  • Gemma gets all dressed up in warm clothes and drives to the school parking lot. No one is around and she gets scared whens she sees another yellow flash out of the corner of her eye as she walks toward the school entrance.
  • She sees more of them and starts running as fast as she can toward the school, totally convinced that she's going to die.
  • She sees a monstrous creature in a hood, and she slams into something solid. It's Alex again. Of course.
  • He asks her why she's running, but Gemma ignores his question and walks straight into the classroom, which is totally packed with students.
  • Mr. Sterling rounds up the whole class and leads them outside to get onto a bus. Gemma's not sure where to sit, but then Alex reaches out to grab her hand and makes the decision for her.
  • He asks her why she's being snippy with him again, and Gemma says that she just wants to know what was going on between him and Sophia. Why were they talking about her?
  • Alex says that he can't tell her that, which is the most frustrating answer ever. Ugh.
  • They ride the bus to a small park at the bottom of the foothills, and upon seeing all of the trees, Gemma suddenly wishes she wasn't there at all. This isn't the kind of place that she finds comforting.
  • Gemma also wishes she could just confide in Alex about the yellow-eyed monsters and what's going on in her life—she wishes that she had that kind of relationship with anyone—but she remains silent instead.
  • They get out of the bus and find telescopes scattered around everywhere. Alex, Aislin, and Gemma find one that's unoccupied and look into it.
  • When Gemma looks up at the stars, she feels like a puzzle that she's a part of is coming together. Then everything goes black.
  • All of a sudden, Gemma finds herself standing in the middle of a snowless field. She sees some people with blurry voices, including a woman who is talking to a little girl; they're excited to be there.
  • When Gemma calls out to them, they don't respond, so she just keeps following them. The woman continues to point out stars to the little girl, who is apparently her daughter.
  • The woman points out some stars and tells her that a spot in the sky is from where she fell about five years ago. What does that even mean?
  • Then the woman calls her daughter Gemma and Gemma starts to freak out. She starts shouting at the mother and daughter, but they don't even notice her; before she can do anything more, Gemma is yanked backward.
  • Gemma comes to and finds that she's back on her field trip and that Alex and Aislin are looking at her oddly. They ask if she's okay but don't seem particularly worried.
  • She needs a moment to collect herself and heads toward the bus. Alex follows her and asks why she's crying.
