History I'd Rather Forget—Age Seventeen—August
- On Sunday, Vera goes shopping at the thrift store across town so she doesn't run into any of her classmates, and as she's driving back, she sees Jenny and Charlie.
- When she gets home, Charlie is waiting for her on the porch. He tells her that he broke up with Jenny and now she wants to kill him. He also says that she has to go to Zimmerman's tonight and stop Jenny.
- Vera tells him that he messed up when he let his new friends carve into the Master Oak, throw paper planes from the pagoda, and when he had sex with Jenny up in their sacred tree house.
- He tells her that she has to meet him at Zimmerman's at seven, and she realizes that she still loves him and will probably do it.
