Character Analysis
In sharp contrast to Sophia and Marco, Gemma's real mother, Jocelyn, loves her daughter to bits. We only ever see her in Gemma's visions, but it's clear that even though Jocelyn is a Keeper, too, she tries her best to protect her daughter when she learns that Stephan wants to separate her emotions from her soul—or worse yet, to send her to the Underworld.
Jocelyn fights back hard, and in doing so, is forced into the lake and made a prisoner of the Underworld as punishment. She sacrifices everything to save her daughter from life as an emotionless shell. Too bad she's not able to stop Stephan's cruel schemes.
