One Whole and Perfect Day Chapter 22 Summary

First Quarrel

  • Oh man… Clara and Lonnie just had a fight. Not a full-fledged, knockdown, drag-out one, but a little spat between young people who are newly dating. It's kind of cute, really.
  • Basically, the argument is about this: Clara tells Lonnie about what a creep her dad is to her mom, and Lonnie says that he can't be worse than Pop.
  • To prove her point, Clara decides to take Lonnie on a little field trip. They go to the building where her dad works and watch him eat his lunch alone on the front steps from across the street.
  • Clara feels oddly bad for him and makes up with Lonnie.
  • Across the street, Charlie sees something that's not exactly at the top of any dad's list: his daughter making out with a dude. An Australian dude, at that.
  • Wait a minute. Isn't Charlie Australian? Why should this detail matter? Either way, he decides not to tell Rose. Clara is no longer their daughter and no longer their business.
