One Whole and Perfect Day Chapter 29 Summary

Marigold Was Late

  • Lily's mom had a rough day at work. Basically, the senior citizens at the day care got delusional and started fighting.
  • On top of all of that, she encountered Mrs. Nightingale's son and daughter-in-law looking at travel brochures again. They told her they still hadn't found someone to look after their mother, but it was nice to dream. Ugh.
  • Then Marigold did the thing she swore she wouldn't do: She told them Mrs. Nightingale could stay with her.
  • On the way home, Marigold thinks about how Lily will take the news. She loves her daughter, but Lily can be a super bossy jerk sometimes; she really reminds Marigold of Pop, which isn't exactly a good thing for her to be thinking right now.
  • When she gets home, Marigold finds Lily crying because she tore her nails, couldn't find the scissors, and—get this—looks like Pop.
  • Marigold comforts her and tells her that she doesn't, even though it's obviously a lie. She decides to hold off on telling her the news about Mrs. Nightingale.
