One Whole and Perfect Day Chapter 40 Summary

Serafina

  • Lily finishes packing for the weekend with Pop and Nan, and all she has left to do is craft terrible, fatalistic scenarios about the carnage currently going down in Katoomba after Lonnie and Clara's arrival.
  • The other thing she has to do, though, is stand in front of her embarrassing witch house so Mrs. Nightingale and her family don't miss it—which they do anyway.
  • The Nightingales drop off their mom and head off for their vacation; shortly after, it's time for Lily, Marigold, and Mrs. Nightingale to leave as well.
  • On the way, Marigold asks Lily to mail some letters. When she gets out at the mailbox, she finds herself in Daniel Steadman's front yard. He's wearing pajamas and picking up the newspaper. Wait… Haven't we seen this somewhere before?
  • Daniel is totally thrilled to have found the source of the mystery voice. So thrilled, in fact, that he asks her out for coffee after rehearsal when he returns to practices the next week.
  • Mrs. Nightingale remarks when she gets back in the car that Lily looks like she's in love, and she actually agrees. Mrs. Nightingale asks her to please call her Serafina—or, for short, Sef.
  • Wait. What?
