One Whole and Perfect Day Chapter 30 Summary

Off to the Hills

  • Lonnie decides it's time to go apologize to Pop, mostly because he wants Lily to leave him alone. He isn't totally sure what he did, but Lily has gotten really hot on this idea of having the whole family together for Nan's party.
  • The truth is, he's got another reason for the visit: to tell Pop that Clara is Chinese. While it's not really a big deal, Pop's racist tendencies make him think it's best to just come clean about the whole thing.
  • At his grandparents' house, Lonnie finds that Pop is in town, which pretty much deflates his determination to face him.
  • Nan gets out Pop's mother's wedding dress, and Lonnie is taken with how perfectly it would fit Clara. Before he leaves, he tells Nan to tell Pop that he's sorry. For what? He still doesn't really know.
  • Out of nowhere, he thinks of his Pop's old dog, Ratbag, and how upset Pop was when he died several years back. He tells Nan to tell Pop he's sorry Ratbag died.
