One Whole and Perfect Day Chapter 33 Summary

Lonnie Cleans His Room

  • We know that the whole idea of women being better homemakers than men has tinges of antifeminist accusations, but in Lonnie's case, that cliché is actually true: Clara's coming over and he can't clean to save his life.
  • He needs someone well-versed in cleaning to help him in his desperate hour… someone sensible… someone like Lily.
  • Just a gentle reminder: Lily's kind of mad at Lonnie right now because he hasn't made up with Pop, so she's not too thrilled to be hearing from him. Still, she agrees to help him out.
  • It turns out the situation really is desperate. Lonnie has plenty of trash and pizza boxes, but no garbage bags, and has been trying to clean his windows with water. Luckily, Lonnie called the right girl. Lily to the rescue.
  • When they're done, the place looks awesome. The celebratory mood quickly comes to a close, though, when Lonnie accuses Lily of thinking he's useless.
  • They verbally spar over whether or not this is true. The short-lived argument ends with Lonnie apologizing to Lily, which frankly shocks her. Lonnie isn't usually the apologizing kind.
  • Clara makes an appearance, bringing along one of Jessaline's handcrafted cake creations. This is a somewhat uncomfortable moment for Lily, who realizes that Lonnie is dead serious about this chick.
  • After an awkward introduction, Lonnie lets his sister be the first to know some big news that he and Clara have apparently reached via telepathy: They are now engaged.
