One Whole and Perfect Day Chapter 8 Summary

Lonnie's Tutorial

  • Lonnie is at his literature tutorial, but is more focused on his family situation than poetry. He's angry with Stan, but moreover, he left home because he wanted space from his family.
  • Like Lily, he also thinks they're weird and feels kind of claustrophobic around them. He daydreams about chasing Emily Brontë through a pastoral landscape with baby birds and a babbling brook, probably in slow motion.
  • The students get their essays back, and Lonnie is disappointed to see that his professor didn't like his paper about—surprise, surprise—Emily Brontë.
  • He and the professor have a brief standoff where the professor tells Lonnie that he needs to apply himself, and Lonnie standoffishly refuses.
