One Whole and Perfect Day Chapter 37 Summary

Hopes and Dreams

  • All the characters are either experiencing insomnia or are lost in meaningful dreams about things they want in life.
  • Lonnie can't sleep because he's afraid Pop came to confront him about Clara's race.
  • Clara can't sleep because she's beginning to realize that she's as bossy to her mother as her dad is, and feels awfully about it.
  • Clara's parents both dream about their daughter thinking they're the best parents ever, and in her own dream, Jessaline has become the Australian version of Emeril.
  • We also get a glimpse of Jessaline's parents. Her mother awakens in the middle of the night wondering if Jessaline is happy as a linguistics major. Um, no—she's not.
  • Although she's sworn off being boy crazy, Lily finally dreams about Daniel Steadman. It's super weird, too—he's getting the morning paper in his pajamas and says hi to her. Huh?
  • When Stan gets home from his visit to Lonnie, he finds May writing out place cards for the party since she's finished the invitations.
  • He asks her for Lonnie's invitation, and writes a message that he can't wait to see him and Clara and thanks him for remembering Ratbag.
