One Whole and Perfect Day Chapter 38 Summary

None of Our Business

  • The week before the party, Rose decides to call Clara. Unfortunately, her timing is awful and makes Jessaline have a panic attack.
  • Allow us to explain. Jessaline is to be congratulated because she has at last gone to the administration building and changed her major.
  • The problem is that the lady who gave her the forms looked super familiar, like she was a guest at one of her parents' parties. So when the phone rings, Jessaline's sure it's her parents calling to find out what's up.
  • She finally gets up and answers the phone, only to find it's Clara's mom. In another classic case of Jessaline O'Harris Blabbermouthism, she says Clara is out for the weekend… with her fiancé. Oops.
  • A furious Rose gets the information out of Jessaline, which isn't much. They're at a party for a guy named Stan who lives in Katoomba and is famous for his obnoxious, big mouth. Looks like he and Jessaline have something in common.
  • At their house, Rose hangs up the phone and tells Charlie Clara's engaged. Oh, and Rose has officially invited herself to the party and is going up there to find out what's going on.
  • She starts maniacally packing a suitcase while Charlie tries to tell her that what Clara does is none of their business—she's not their daughter anymore.
  • Rose stands up to him, telling him that Clara can't just stop being their daughter.
