One Whole and Perfect Day Chapter 25 Summary

May's Day

  • May and Sef are on a secret mission, heading out to the gorge with something very heavy in a green shopping bag.
  • May is determined that no matter what the cost or the consequences, Lonnie will be at Stan's birthday party. There have been too many losses in her life, and she can't bear another one.
  • She remembers what it was like to lose Sef—the real Sef. She was adopted from the orphanage and May never got to say goodbye.
  • She wonders about how old Sef would be right now—just a couple years older than her—and if they would know each other if they met on the street. She assures herself that they would.
  • May thinks about the conversation Lily had with her recently about Stan's ax. She pointed out that Stan's hands are shaky, and that he could really hurt someone with that thing.
  • As a matter of fact, that conversation is what has brought May out to the gorge: She's going to get rid of the ax.
  • She throws it into the gorge and goes home with Sef, telling her that they are now free to have a perfect party.
