Sparrow and Weasel

Character Analysis

Living the Life?

These so-called "water rats" are orphan siblings living in the marshes of the Fingers in Westmark. They're scavengers that take stuff—or, you know, people—that float into their home. Sparrow and Weasel might not have the most flattering of names, but they're definitely survivors. Check out their really detached approach when evaluating the latest loot making its way into their home:

"A brawl." Weasel nodded his head in solemn professional judgment. He tugged until the weapon came free of the breast. "It's a good blade." (14.6)

You guys see that there's a dead body in the mix, right? Ain't no thang to Sparrow and Weasel, though—there's "a good blade" they can make use of… stabbed into the body's breast. Needless to say, it's safe to assume these two have seen their fair share of horrors if something like this doesn't faze them.

Love Don't Cost a Thing

Sparrow and Weasel live a humble life, taking what they need from whatever floats into the Fingers. They got there out of rough circumstances, but do the best they can and they're still honorable and compassionate people.

Keller notes how they are stewards of the rubbish collection in the Fingers, a profession that we might not think is great, but which isn't without its own sense of awesomeness for them. Plus they help out Dr. Torrens once they realize he's alive, and bind up his wound; they also help Keller by sheltering him and Dr. T from danger. What good kids.
