I Am the Messenger Part 3 / Chapter 2 Summary

twenty dollars for the dog and the card

  • Ed panics. He's lost his dog and he figures out how much that smelly old flea-bag really means to him.
  • He asks Audrey for help, and they look at the creek and along the trees—then Ed sees a young woman and a kid glaring at him
  • It must be the next card.
  • Ed can feel it. He's chasing the person who's in charge of all this.
  • He chases the woman but she escapes—and when he returns, the boy is still standing there, holding a card and the Doorman.
  • Ed asks the kid for his dog, but naturally, the kid sees an opportunity and seizes it. He asks for twenty bucks in exchange for the dog… or else.
  • Ed gives in. He gets the card, and more importantly, the Doorman, and he's really relieved.
