The Book of the Lion Chapter 10 Summary

  • The days all run together as the Crusaders head toward London. They are all treated well by the inns—Crusaders are greeted everywhere with respect—and as they get closer to the city, they see more towns and people. At this point, Edmund has gotten used to the routine and doesn't mind the pain and exhaustion.
  • Edmund remembers the first time he saw a map of London, which made it look like the Emerald City of England. Expectations do not match reality, though, and the real London is a disappointment.
  • Amid all the people they see, Edmund notices that there are no brave knights in armor. They're all in the Crusades so the only guys left look sad and miserable.
  • As they walk through the streets, Hubert and Edmund run into a man beating his horse. Hubert is greatly affected and tells the man to stop, but instead of doing so, the man picks a fight with them and winds up hitting Edmund with his staff.
  • In seconds, Hubert has the man pinned to the ground with his sword pointed at his heart. The people watching beg Hubert to spare the man's life.
  • Edmund drags Hubert from the scene and they try to make their way back—only to wander around and realize that they're lost.
