The Book of the Lion Chapter 35 Summary

  • The army is marching along the shore, with Saladin's ships following the same path at sea. Rannulf tells Edmund that he is out of favor with the king since he did not join in the slaughter.
  • Hubert talks about finding a way to win the admiration of men and women—perhaps tracking a lion down for the king will do the trick. But Rannulf corrects him, saying that women are corrupt and he is lucky to have avoided contact with them.
  • Edmund knows that many Christian soldiers agree with Rannulf, but he can't help but think of Elvira fondly.
  • Riders on camels approach and the army tenses up. Edmund is scared because he's heard horrible things about these camel creatures, but Rannulf assures him that they aren't dangerous. However their riders are, and he orders Edmund to help them kill.
