The Book of the Lion Chapter 5 Summary

  • Nigel leads Edmund to his room, which is much nicer than he's used to. He lies awake for a while before he dozes off.
  • The next morning, wakes before dawn and dresses in his new clothes before making his way through the hall, stepping over sleeping drunks as he goes. As he gets to the front door he could swear that he hears his name being called, but then he manages to get away before anyone catches him.
  • Once well outside of town, he rehearses his plan to work as a laborer and save his own money. He hopes that maybe he can use it to win Elvira.
  • As he walks on, his conscience pricks him and he feels guilty for running away.
  • Eventually it starts to rain. Edmund walks until the roads are too slippery and he twists his ankle.
