The Book of the Lion Chapter 36 Summary

  • The camel riders show no sign of violence and turn to ride away from the army.
  • The king catches up to them, though, looking regal and powerful as always. He rides alongside Rannulf and asks if he has seen signs of a lion.
  • They lose a few numbers as raids attack from the back. Eventually they place reinforcements at the back of the army so that no more provisions are lost. The king marches up and down the procession keeping an eye on everyone.
  • A Burgundian knight is thrown off his horse and speared in one of the random attacks. They watch in disgust but are ordered to continue on their march.
  • It seems like the journey down the coast is never going to end.
  • The army stops at a place called Arsuf. Wenstan, who has transformed into a seemingly younger version of himself on this journey, explains to Hubert and Edmund their location on a map.
  • Suddenly commands are being given, noise is everywhere, and Rannulf orders Edmund to dress him for battle. Whoa.
