- Wenstan and Edmund eventually find Nigel and Hubert a ways off from the battlefield. Nigel is sitting down and obviously hurt; Hubert explains that he was thrown from his horse while chasing down his enemies. Nigel wearily explains that he was trying to take hostages for silver.
- They make their way back slowly. Nigel denies that he is in pain, but his arm is shattered. On the way back, they run into a few Saracen, who begin to ride away at the sight of them. For a minute, Edmund thinks that he recognizes one of them as the one he met at the watering hole. He tells himself that they all look alike, though, and it couldn't possibly be the same one.
