- Edmund wishes the ride back would last longer. Behind him, Hubert continues to struggle with Winter Star, his horse, who refuses to calm down. Once they are back, Edmund asks Hubert about the pagan, whose name is Rannulf. Edmund recognizes him—dude infamously killed several men in a tournament once.
- Edmund's sprained foot is wrapped and he is given an old sword, which he gets to work sharpening. The household starts bringing him all sorts of other things to fix, and Edmund is happy to have work to do since it distracts him from the Crusades.
- At the end of the day, Hubert announces that Sir Nigel is looking for him.
